* Spanish American War Vet

This is a home recording that is very interesting. It was recorded on November 13, 1943. It begins with an announcement that is a little garbled at first, but it goes something like this:

". . . Doug . . . Well, I figure this record is to add to my collection. This number is being played by a 66 year old Spanish American War Veteran who has 4 sons in the foreign service, one of them a prisoner with the Germans. He is now going to play the ‘Memphis Blues’ and ‘Wabash Blues’ on one side and the other side ‘Waiting for the Robert E. Lee"

At the end of the record, he says he is from Tyler, Texas. I believe he says the piano player is D. B. Forrest, but it is a little garbled.

This is just a nice piece of history. Apparently, the fellow in Tyler, Texas, was a collector and made this record for his collection.
