VV-VIII

This is a Victor Victrola model VIII (eight). Based on the early serial number 8686 and the forward mounted crank, I believe it is from 1911. However, the sticker on bottom has a 1912 date, so it probably originally sold in 1912. The VV VIII was the entry machine in the line of covered tabletop machines built from 1911 through 1924; they were built with twin spring motors and 10" turntable. Although not as popular as the more powerful model IX, nearly 200,000 were sold. This machine is not rare but the low serial number makes it desirable.

This particular machine was found in a local antique mall. It has very little cabinet and machine parts wear. It plays nicely and looks great. The exhibition reproducer will need to be rebuilt, I borrowed a rebuilt one for this video. Due to the condition of the machine, I suspect this was a collector's machine at one time.

Another rainy day project.

The pictures below show some before and after shots.
